JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Medical Director
Department: Medical/ Nursing
Reports To: Executive Director, Administratively; Consultive relationship with Corporate Medical Director
Supervises: Can Clinically supervise Staff Physician, Physician's Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner, Pharmacist and Consultant Dietician, as indicated.
Entry Level Qualifications:
Medical Degree from an accredited college/university. Currently licensed by Mississippi Medical Licensure Board, Certification in Addictionology (ASAM). Continuing education as required for state licensure/certification as recommended by state or national professional association. Minimum of four (4) years experience in alcohol/drug treatment.
1. If recovering, must have four (4) years of continuous verifiable abstinence.
2. Must be able to hear (hearing aid acceptable)
3. Must be emotionally and physically capable of functioning under stressful situations.
4. Maintain records and have good communication skills.
5. Must have valid state drivers license.
6. Regular attendance.
General Responsibilities:
Assure that Medical services that are of the highest quality and are delivered according to Policy and Procedure, as well as, Bradford’s Principals of Treatment. Conduct patient’s medical history and physical examinations. Medical monitoring of patients in all phases of treatment, as indicated.
Know and abide by the general provisions of 42 CFR Part2, “Confidentiality of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Patient Records”, and 45 CFR “Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.” This position has restricted access to patient identifying and patient health information.
Essential Functions:
1. Assure that patient’s medical history and physical examination is completed within twenty-four (24) hours on patients admitted to the facility.
2. Daily visits with patients during detoxification.
3. Supervision of staff medical personnel, as designated.
4. Routine medical visits and treatment as requested or as indicated.
5. Formulation of standing orders in conjunction with Corporate Medical Director
6. Assure that patients are detoxed.
7. Assure that patients are referred to proper agencies when treatment is beyond our scope.
8. Provide admission, transfer and discharge orders.
9. Participate in Utilization Reviews.
10. Attend and participate in clinical Staffings.
11. Facility leadership with regards to new findings in the field of addictions treatment.
12. Assure twenty-four (24) hour- seven (7) days weekly medical coverage.
13. Must maintain a professional demeanor and appearance, must not appear impaired or disoriented, but rather must present coherent and articulate speech, kept appearance, alert, oriented, and responsive to patients' needs and concerns.
14. Must be able to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers, managers, clients and prospective clients.
15. Must be able to work in constant state of alertness as to perform the job in a safe manner.
16. Regular attendance.
