Medical Director, Global Medical Affairs Lead, Diabetes and Metabolism - US, Remote

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role the Medical Director is the single point of Medical accountability for their allocated product in the relevant indications. The Medical Director drives the development and execution of product Medical strategies to maximize Amgen's value proposition in alignment with product strategies across relevant geographies.

Responsibilities:

1. Strategy Development and Implementation:
2. Contribute to the development and execution of the global medical affairs strategy for Diabetes related products.
3. Serve as the Medical Affairs Representative on various global strategic teams.
4. Support the development of the integrated evidence generation plan for Diabetes and related conditions.
5. Capture clinical/scientific insights across all key markets and translate them into concrete strategies.
6. Facilitate scientific engagements across a broad range of partners (e.g. KOLs, Professional Organizations, Payers, Regulators).
7. Align and implement strategy for medical communications and related activities.
8. Develop medical strategic plans and ensure consistent execution of outputs through Medical Affairs Teams.
9. Provide strategic direction for study design and execution for medical affairs and other global studies.
10. Enable access to medicines through clear understanding and education of treatment value.
11. Facilitate and continue to build Amgen’s role as a science-based, patient-focused partner.
12. Provide input to Value Dossiers.
13. Determine resource and budget allocation necessary to deliver on medical strategies.
14. Evidence Generation and Communication:
15. Provide insights to Amgen's Safety and Benefit/Risk profile of the molecule.
16. Support evidence generation that shapes the therapeutic area and informs the practice of medicine.
17. Synthesize and integrate insights to deliver medical inputs into cross-regional/functional strategies.
18. Review, approve, and ensure dissemination of medical communications and related activities.
19. Lead or support advisory boards and other meetings.
20. Collaboration and Coordination:
21. Cultivate and improve collaboration and coordination across medical functions.
22. Lead/support relationships with the external healthcare community.
23. Serve as a medical representative in leadership, governance, and cross-functional teams.
24. Compliance and Performance:
25. Ensure conduct of medical activities in full compliance with all laws, regulations, and SOPs.
26. Use global infrastructure for tracking, measuring, and evaluating performance and ensuring continuous performance improvement.

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

1. Doctorate degree and 4 years’ experience in a leadership role in clinical research and/or medical affairs
2. OR
3. Master’s degree and 8 years’ experience in a leadership role in clinical research and/or medical affairs
4. OR
5. Bachelor’s degree and 10 years’ experience in a leadership role in clinical research and/or medical affairs

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 4 years’ experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. MD plus accredited fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetology, Obesity, Internal Medicine or related medical field. Board-certified or board eligible.
2. PAs, NPs, RDs, PhDs or PharmDs will be considered based on individuals’ profile.
3. Clinical experience and disease knowledge base in diabetes and metabolic conditions.
4. 3 years of clinical research and/or medical affairs experience in a leadership role.
5. 5 years of Medical Affairs experience in industry (biotech, pharmaceutical or CRO).
6. Experience in building Integrated Evidence Generation Plans.
7. Ability to establish interactions and engagements with partners (e.g., Opinion Leaders, advocacy groups, patients, payers, vendors).
8. Familiarity with global regulatory organizations, guidelines, and practices.
9. Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and global regulations and guidelines.
10. Knowledge of pharmaceutical product development, product lifecycle, and commercialization processes.
11. History of solving problems while exhibiting sound scientific/medical judgment and a balanced, realistic understanding of issues.
12. Good understanding of healthcare systems around the world (e.g. US, EU, Asia).
13. Track record of success working with matrixed cross-functional teams.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is $240,179 to $288,484. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
