Position Overview:
Care Alliance Health Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Medical Director to join our leadership team. This key position combines clinical and administrative leadership, ensuring the highest standards of care are delivered to underserved populations while fostering a supportive environment for medical providers. The Medical Director will report to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), oversee all medical providers, and maintain an active clinical practice, dedicating approximately 60% of their time to patient care and 40% to administrative responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong commitment to health equity, a passion for integrated care, and a proven ability to lead diverse teams in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or similar setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Leadership & Oversight:
- Provide clinical leadership and supervision to medical providers, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, ensuring adherence to organizational standards and best practices.
- Lead the implementation of evidence-based clinical protocols, workflows, and guidelines to improve patient outcomes.
- Conduct performance evaluations for medical providers, provide constructive feedback, mentoring, and support to promote professional development.
- Address clinical performance issues in collaboration with the CMO and HR team to ensure quality care delivery.
Direct Patient Care:
- Dedicate approximately 60% of the time to direct patient care, delivering comprehensive, patient-centered primary care services to diverse populations, including preventive care, chronic disease management, and acute care.
- Serve as a clinical resource for providers by managing complex patient cases and providing second opinions as needed.
- Champion a team-based care model, collaborating with behavioral health, dental, and pharmacy teams to deliver integrated care.
Quality Improvement & Compliance:
- Work closely with the Quality Improvement (QI) team to monitor clinical outcomes, identify care gaps, and develop initiatives to enhance patient safety and satisfaction.
- Oversee compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including HRSA and FQHC standards.
- Participate in and support internal and external audits, ensuring continuous readiness for accreditation or licensing reviews.
Strategic Collaboration:
- Partner with the CMO to develop and implement strategic plans that align with organizational goals and community health needs.
- Collaborate with the operations team to optimize clinical workflows, scheduling, and patient access.
- Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including hospitals, public health agencies, and community organizations, to strengthen partnerships and referral networks.
Provider Recruitment & Retention:
- Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of medical providers, ensuring that staff are well-integrated into the team and aligned with the organization’s mission.
- Create a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, addressing provider concerns and fostering professional growth.
Qualifications:
Education & Licensure
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
- Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or a related primary care specialty.
- Unrestricted Ohio medical license or ability to obtain one prior to employment.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Experience in an FQHC, community health center, or comparable setting is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary teams and implementing quality improvement initiatives.
Skills & Competencies:
- Commitment to health equity and addressing social determinants of health.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and lead a diverse team.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems, preferably Epic.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret clinical data and implement effective solutions.
