Ultimate Staffing is actively seeking a motivated and skilled Collections Specialist to join our client's dynamic Business Office team. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of claims reimbursement and collection efforts for Managed Care, Medicare, Medicaid, Workers' Compensation, Commercial plans, and more. This position requires expertise in billing, collections, and claims processing in a fast-paced environment committed to producing high-quality results.
We are looking for a personable, courteous professional who can effectively balance trustful client relationships with ensuring timely payments. The ideal candidate should exhibit professionalism, trustworthiness, strong communication, and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the Business Office team.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Business Office Manager, the Collections Specialist will be responsible for following up on delinquent claims and working through an expected number of claims per day. Most claims will be submitted electronically to various insurance carriers. Candidates must have a thorough understanding of managed care contracts, Medicare, Medicaid, and Workers' Compensation claims.
Responsibilities include:
- Calculating allowable amounts and determining the appropriateness of reimbursements.
- Appealing claims as necessary.
- Communicating extensively with insurance carriers and patients regarding outstanding balances.
- Identifying accounts with over or underpayments and issuing credit balances to the appropriate party.
- Adhering to policies, procedures, internal controls, and established goals.
The candidate must be a team player who can communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and insurance carriers while managing accounts productively and independently. The role demands professionalism, confidentiality, and the ability to perform well under stress in demanding situations.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 2-3 years of experience, with a focus on healthcare insurance collections. Preference given to those with experience in an ambulatory surgical setting.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Experience with patient accounting systems (e.g., Advantx preferred).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Skilled in time management and prioritization.
- Exceptional customer service and professionalism.
- Proficient in critical thinking and problem-solving.
- Typing speed of 45-60 WPM.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
- Experience with electronic patient information systems is preferred, but training is available.
