About the Job
Possession of a valid New York State license, issued by the New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions, as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist AND bachelor's degree in medical technology; OR Minimum of 90 semester hours or equivalent in an accredited college or university AND the successful completion of a course of training of at least 12 months in a school of medical technology approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; OR Bachelor's degree in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences AND one year of training and/or experience in medical technology; OR Any combination of academic study and training and/or experience outlined in Section 58 of Title 10 of the New York State Public Health Law as referenced in the New York State Codes, Rules, and Regulations (NYCRR)
The job description is:
" Perform laboratory tests and procedures.
" Follow approved policies and procedures in performing specific methodologies and instrument operations and follows approved policies for proper recording and reporting of results.
" Perform and documents procedures required to ensure the quality of testing being performed. Responsibility includes quality control, instrument preventative maintenance, function checks and calibration.
" Follow approved guidelines when troubleshooting and carry out appropriate course of action when control values and/or instrument functions checks are invalid or inconsistent.
" Review patient results prior to release to the electronic medical record. Correlate final results with known facts concerning patient history/previous values and recognize the validity of results and identify/reject those results that are illogical.
" Communicate critical values and barriers to testing to medical staff according to protocol. Document according to laboratory policy.
" Complete assigned proficiency and competency assessments
" Maintain sufficient testing supplies in work area, including ordering if directed by lead.
" Consistently generate and review pending logs
" Participates in the training of new medical technologists at the direction of seniors and lead technologists.
" Performs other duties as assigned.
