Position Summary
The Medical Assistant provides support to the physician, physician extender and the patient for patient care services. Collaborates with physicians, physician extender and all other clinical staff to optimize a positive patient experience, improve efficiency and work flow. The Medical Assistant is an advocate on behalf of the practice and the patient with outside healthcare facilities and ancillary agencies involving the patient’s care, required services, durable medical equipment and the patient insurance carrier.
Duties and Responsibilities
Direct the flow of patients into the rooms during clinic days.
Ensure rooms are cleaned between patients, as well as cleaned and stocked at the end of the day.
Collect/assist with the collection of specimens, sterilizes instruments as needed, and removes staples, sutures, and external fixation devices as ordered by the physician.
Assist physician with procedures as needed.
Interviews patients, measures vital signs, weight, and height, and records information on patients' charts.
Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
Draws injections or treatments and performs routine laboratory tests.
Keys data into computer to maintain office and patient records.
Apply and remove and/or assist with casts, splints, and dressings as ordered by the physician.
Prepare and fit all types of orthopedic bracing devices and DME.
Instruct patients regarding care of casts, splints, dressings, DME etc.
