Summary: Responsible for covering clinical offices based on operational need. Assists in the examination of patients under the direction of a Physician and in accordance with M.A. scope of practice. Thorough knowledge of infection control and aseptic techniques. Responsible for maintaining smooth patient flow by accurate assessment of patients' needs thorough attention to physician orders and properly scheduling and follow-up of tests and procedures performed on patient. Act as an intermediary between physician and patients when necessary to more appropriately use the physician time.

Graduate from a recognized medical assistant program required. Two years experience working as a Medical Assistant in a multi-specialty group setting required. Medical Assistant certification and current BLS. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, and write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Essential Functions: Note: (other duties may be assigned, deleted or changed at any time, at the discretion of management, formally, or informally, either verbally or in writing).
- Cooperates in the cross training of this position to ensure coverage at all times.
- Collection of patient data to include record keeping to ensure chart is in order. Logs appropriate procedures and tests. Billing and patient charges are kept current. Tick sheets are done accurately and on time. Patient instruction-injections and scheduled medications are documented accurately.
- Preparation of Patients to include vital signs, charting, attends to the individual needs of the patient, prepare patient for minor procedures. Ensure that patient has the correct consent information completed.
- Demonstrates technical skills by following all safety policies and procedures involving patient care, i.e. injections, handling instruments, cleaning wounds, handling body fluids. Practices good sterile technique involving minor surgical procedures and handling injuries, wounds, etc.
- Explain procedure to patient and family to gain cooperation, understanding, and to ease apprehension.
- Prepare treatment room for examination of patients; assist physician with procedures; clean examination rooms and sterilize appropriate equipment after use.
- Administer prescribed medication orally or by injection and document time, dosage and route on patient chart.
- Perform electrocardiograph (EKG), pulse oximetry, inhalation treatments, and operate other equipment, as certified.
- Complete all documentation to ensure accurate medical records. Assure that physician has signed chart; review physician orders to verify that all orders have been carried out. Return patient charts to medical records.
- Inventory and order medical supplies and materials, as needed.
- Travels between departments and facilities on an as-needed basis based on coverage requirements.
- Responsible for ensuring all expired sample medications and patient supplies are discarded upon expiration date.
- Supports and practices the policies and procedures of nursing services.
- Function in the scope of Medical Assistant practice and Akidopolicies and procedures.
- Maintains current BLS certification.
