Position Summary
The practice Medical Assistant will perform a variety of clinical and office duties under the Physician/Provider/Nurse's direct supervision. Medical Assistants must adhere to the NYS Medical Assistant scope of practice.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
Education & Experience Requirements
- High School diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) required
- Successful completion of a six-month (6) to one (1) year course in Medical Assisting from an accredited school required
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
- Medical Assistants must have their BLS upon hire or obtain within 3 months of hire.
- Medical Assistants must adhere to the NYS Medical Assistant Scope of Practice
- Basic medical terminology, Electronic Scheduling and Electronic Medical Record experience required
- Two years of recent experience working in a medical facility as medical assistant is strongly preferred.

- Travel to various practice sites may be required.
- Must retain composure under stress frequently.
- Must be flexible and able to adapt to changes in routine.
- Must be able to recognize the immediacy of emergency situations.
- Frequently moves/transports objects up to fifty (50) pounds and must be able to move patients of all weights with a minimum of one (1) assist or assistive device/equipment
- May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access).
