Job DescriptionThe Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for the intake of clients and preparing them to be seen by the Medical Practitioners. The MA performs back-office skills, obtains baseline clinical data, assists the medical staff as necessary, assists in the efficient operation of the Medical Clinic, and collaborates with the maintenance of the laboratory. This position is vital to the provision of support to the providers and patients in the delivery of Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) team-based care.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Screens patients, documents findings in the medical information system and alerts the practitioner to special care needs.
- Assists the practitioner and other professional staff in the delivery of patient care; reinforces discharge instructions and deliverables.
- Administers medications and immunizations under the direction of healthcare professionals; documents same in the medical information system.
- Practices Infection Control and Bloodborne Pathogen precautions, procedures and practices.
- Performs medical office administration, monitors inventories and maintains supply levels for patient care activities.
- Performs CLIA-waiver testing and collaborates with the contract laboratory technician.
- Performs all Core Competencies when providing patient-centered care.
- Supports the Native Health mission as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
- Medical Assistant certification preferred or required within six (6) months of employment. A Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Healthcare Association is preferred or comparable certification from an accredited organization.
- Two years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a direct patient care setting, with experience in pediatric and adult patients preferred.
- Spanish language fluency is preferred.
Standard Employment Requirements:
- Must possess a valid and unrestricted Arizona driver’s license (within 30 days of hire if applicant is from out-of-state) with no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions in the last five years. No more than two at-fault accidents in the last three years. Must maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license during employment. Must be insurable under NATIVE HEALTH’s liability auto policy.
- Must pass a criminal background check and obtain a Class I Fingerprint Clearance Card within the initial ninety (90) calendar days of employment and retain a valid card while employed with NATIVE HEALTH.
- Must pass substance abuse testing upon employment and submit to random testing during employment.
- Must provide an updated immunization (IZ) record at the time of employment.
- Must have a current (within 12 months) Tuberculosis (TB) skin report upon employment and provide an annual update.
- Must obtain BLS certification within (90) calendar days of employment and maintain certification during employment.

- Ability to work efficiently and comfortably with other medical clinic employees.
- Knowledge and use of supplies and medical equipment.

- Culturally competent; able to work with a diverse workforce and client population.
- Evidence of current medication administration knowledge and skills.
- Comprehension of HIPAA regulations, compliance and violation reporting.
- Healthcare information entry and retrieval from the electronic health record skills.
