Position Summary
To process ambulatory patients efficiently for initial injuries and illnesses, physical exams, testing and follow-up visits. Will assist other members of the clinical team in providing care to the patients. Duties will include coverage of the front desk, answering telephones, scheduling of appointments and processing of patients. Is an effective team worker who demonstrates appropriate interaction with all staff members.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Introduces oneself when bringing patients to exam rooms, verifies a patient's date of birth and prepares the patient for exam by provider per department protocols.
- Performs full vitals, audiometry, spirometry, vision testing, lab specimen collection, drug testing, breath alcohol testing, according to protocol, in a timely and accurate manner to ensure quality patient care.
- Keeps exam rooms well stocked, ensures supplies and medication expiration dates are checked on a routine basis and uses proper procedure for re-ordering supplies.
- Adhere to department policies and procedures.
- Performs QA daily on all equipment that requires it and logs results in a spreadsheet according to Point of Care policy/procedure.
- Completes all department specific competencies, maintains licenses and completes Hospital HealthStream.
- Exhibits high standards of Service Excellence as perceived by both internal and external clients, customers and coworkers.
- Processing Workers Compensation referrals according to Department policy/process.
- Registers patients, obtains and enters patient demographic and job history information accurately into Systoc for registration, data entry, billing and tracking purposes. Understands how Systoc database works and complies with all registration requirements.
- Processes and distributes incoming fax documents according to department policy/process.
- Occasional off hours to assist the provider/Department in performing onsite Fire Department exams, laboratory blood draws, influenza clinics or any other testing requested by client companies.
- Will be an effective team worker who demonstrates appropriate interaction with all staff members.
- Coverage of both the Middletown and Essex offices in order to maintain competencies and skills required in each location.
- All other job related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in a clinical setting, preferably in an Occupational Medicine or Primary Care office.
- Medical Assistant certification is highly preferred.
- Effective communication skills, phlebotomy competency, and BLS required. Experience in performing EKGs, urinalysis, and vision testing is highly preferred.
- Excellent customer service and telephone etiquette.
- Computer literate with electronic health records.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ambulatory office based physician practice experience, preferably in Primary Care or Occupational Medicine.
- Electronic Health record Knowledge/use.
- Diagnostic testing relevant to Primary Care or Occupational Medicine.
