Medical Assistant - Floater - Community of HOPE

• Prepares patients for examination and treatment by taking the patient’s history and vital signs.
• Supplies provider with necessary forms and information to accomplish visit;
• Cleans up exam and treatment and rooms after patient encounter;
• Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments according to policy and procedure manual and/or as instructed by the provider;
• Provides nursing care to all patients including, but not limited to, EKGs, wound dressing, assisting providers with minor procedures, and administering nebulizer treatment to asthmatic patients as ordered by providers;
• Do weekly checks of the emergency equipment cart and all supplies when assigned to this task;
• Cleans prepares, and autoclaves instruments used during procedures;
• Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to the physician;
• Performs vaccine and medication administration on patients of all ages when ordered by a provider;
• Responds to patient messages and prescription refill requests;
• Attends clinic staff meetings and COH all staff meetings

• A Medical Assistant Diploma and an active Medical Assistant Certification from an approved nationally accredited association (AAMA - American Association of Medical Assistants or NHA-National Healthcare Association). MA Certification is accepted without a diploma if the experience requirement (1 Year) was met for certification. This includes meeting renewal deadlines upon hire, and thereafter. We offer reimbursement for exam fees and additional CEU reimbursements.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years experience in a medical office practice or hospital setting preferred. Experience in Primary Care practice preferred
• BLS and CPR are required.
• Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
• Commitment to work with underserved populations.
• Ability to work in a non-profit environment and travel to other sites as needed.
• Participation in appropriate continuing medical education.
• All Health Staff must receive the required vaccinations. This includes annual flu and COVID vaccines. Medical or religious exemptions may be requested.

Community of Hope is a mission-driven, innovative, and rapidly growing nonprofit. For nearly 40 years, we have provided healthcare, housing, and supportive services for low-income, underserved, and homeless people in Washington DC. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, we provide medical, dental, behavioral health, and care coordination services for the whole family at three locations in DC. Community of Hope also has a strong emphasis on maternal and child health, with a midwifery practice and the only free-standing birth center in DC. In 2020, Community of Hope provided about 28,400 medical visits, 7,000 dental visits, and 10,000 behavioral health visits for about 11,000 patients. Community of Hope is also providing community walk-in COVID testing and COVID vaccines. Community of Hope is also one of the largest providers in DC of housing and support services for families experiencing homelessness.  Through providing these programs, we live out our mission to improve health and end family homelessness to make Washington, DC more equitable.
