Job Summary
Odyssey House Louisiana, Inc. is seeking a full-time Certified Medical Assistant for its Federally Qualified Health Center. The schedule is Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. This position is one of the most important functions in the health care delivery system and the first point where contact is made personally or by telephone. The person will receive the patient and direct them to the services needed. Making appointments and making preliminary assessments before provider can see them and provide follow through assuring complete care.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Works closely with Medical and Nursing staff to assure smooth patient flow and cut down on waiting time triage and phlebotomy as needed.
- Provides support during clinic sessions to medical providers.
- Documents patient vital signs and medical history into patient record.
- Documents pertinent patient information in accordance to HEDIS, UDS, PCMH, and FQHC guidelines.
- Communicates patients’ problems/complaints in a consistent manner to identify visit needs for providers.
- Manages phlebotomy room and maintenance.
- Records and documents visits in patient’s chart consistently to assure quality of care.
- Data entry into grant required documentation as instructed
- Routine utilization of EHR system.
- Inventories and monitors use of office supplies and reordering as needed.
- Completes on-line/paper Medicaid applications for patients.
- Participates in electronic medical record usage.
- Faxes requests, referrals, medical records, and any documents needed to pursue effective patient care and/or billing.
- Communicates patients’ problems to the medical staff.
- Maintains HIPAA guidelines and respects professional boundaries with patients.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification as Medical Assistant from an accredited medical assistant program or state agency
- Current CPR
- 2 years’ experience in an FQHC
- BLS Certification
- Experience with electronic medical records (Allscripts and EPIC preferred)
- Excellent communication, customer service, problem solving, and multi-tasking skills
