Summary
Reporting to the Central Services Lead Pharmacist, and with the direction and guidance of the Medical Directors, assists in the evaluation and processing of medication renewal and prior authorization requests. Responsible for incoming and outbound calls pertaining to prior authorization and medication renewal requests. Ensures appropriate documentation and routing of these requests. In addition, may be involved in other areas of medical office support including clerical, environmental and organizational.
Education
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred. Successful completion of a Licensed Nursing Assistant program; or Military medical training with commensurate experience.
Certification, Registration & Licensure
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification or Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers.
Medical Assistants hired on or after October 1, 2018 must obtain certification or registration within the first three years of employment.
Experience
With completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, no experience is required. Licensed Nursing Assistant must have a minimum of one year of healthcare experience. Trained Military Medic must have the equivalent of one year related experience.
Responsibilities
Triages medication renewal requests per practice specific guidelines.
Evaluates medication renewal requests and authorizes refills per practice specific guidelines.
Completes required documentation for prior authorization requests per established protocols.
Schedules patient appointments and enters protocol specified orders per practice specific guidelines.
Uses software (PowerChart, GroupWise, Portal) following established protocols for documentation, responding to requests, and initiating appropriate orders.
Performs job specific requirements and other duties as assigned.
