About the Job
Essential Job Functions:
- Medication Technician works under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Assist / administer medications according to health care provider instructions following the Medication Administration Record and within the scope of your license.
- Maintain accurate documentation of medication administration, medication effectiveness and any noted side effects, in accordance with established policy and procedures, standards of care and applicable state/federal regulations. Report any adverse reactions or side effects to supervisor or Director of Nursing.
- Performs personal care activities including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, skin care/nail care, oral hygiene, shaving, dressing, and others as directed/requested.
- Assists in dining rooms as assigned to provide resident care and monitoring.
- Initiates and participates in leisure activities provided for residents. Encourages residents to socialize and participate in planned activities or programs and to develop friendships with other residents.
- Observes and report the health and emotional condition of each resident, promptly reporting all changes to the nurse. Report significant events that occur during shift.
- Responds promptly, courteously and appropriately to resident requests for assistance.
- Promotes personal safety and a safe environment for residents by observing infection control, blood borne pathogens, fire safety, hazardous materials, and other safety practices, following facility guidelines, and reporting unsafe situations to the nurse.
- Assist residents in preparing for appointments and social programs.
- Assist residents to walk with or without self-help devices as instructed.
- Check each resident routinely to ensure that his/her personal care needs are being met in accordance with his/her wishes.
- Provide special resident services offered by the facility.
- Provide physical support to assist patients to perform daily living activities, such as transferring residents, getting out of bed, bathing, dressing, using the toilet, standing, walking, or exercising, serve and assist with meals, taking vital signs.
- Observes and documents the health, behavior, physical and emotional condition of each resident, promptly reporting all changes to the nurse.
- Responds promptly and courteously to resident call signals, bells, or intercom systems to determine residents' needs.
- Promotes personal safety with a clean and safe environment for residents by observing infection control practices, following facility guidelines, and reporting unsafe situation to the nurse.
- Communicate with nurses on resident conditions, changes and concerns.
- Provide companionship, comfort and support to residents.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Critical Skills:
- Be able to make independent decisions and follow instructions
- Deal tactfully with personnel, prospects, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public
- Capable of working with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people within the facility
- Communicate effectively in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication with supervisors, team members, prospects, residents, and families
Education and Experience:
- Must meet all applicable state and federal requirements for this position
- Prefer 6 months or more of experience in a home care, assisted living, or long-term care facility
Supervisory Responsibility:
- This position does not have any direct reports or supervisory requirements.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Tasks assigned to this position may involve potential and/or direct exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, air contaminants, and hazardous chemicals.
Physical Requirements - The Physical activities of this position involve:
- Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds; moving, lifting or transferring of residents may involve lifting up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry patients.
- Ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles over time without fatigue.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, sit and reach.
- Fine motor skills.
Cognitive Requirements - The Cognitive activities with or without prosthetics of this position are:
- Executes tasks independently.
- Ability to express yourself clearly and effectively verbally.
- Ability to concentrate on moderate details with frequent interruptions.
- Visual acuity.
- Hearing alertness.
Environmental Requirements - An individual in this position may be exposed to:
- Ambient room temperatures and lighting .
