POSITION SUMMARY
A Med Tech/Caregiver administers oral and external medications to residents under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or a licensed practical / vocational nurse. The primary responsibility of the caregiver position is to meet the daily personal care needs of residents with professionalism, dignity and respect following the current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern assisted living communities. You are entrusted to ensure that the highest degree of quality care can be provided to our residents at all times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Med Tech:
- Prepares and administers medications to residents following established procedures
- Verifies identity of resident receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration on specified forms or records
- Clarifies any order or treatment regimen believed to be inaccurate, ineffective, or contraindicated by consulting with appropriate licensed practitioner. Notifies supervisor when making the decision not to administer
- Takes and records vital signs upon administration of medications when required
- Orders and re-orders medications and returns all discharge medications for credit in compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Maintains neat, clean, and orderly medication room and cart. Takes appropriate precautions to make sure residents / patient do not have access to medications other than those prescribed
- Completes required forms and documents in accordance with company policy and state and/or federal regulations
Resident Care Duties:
- Provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as grooming, bathing and dressing, as requested by residents or directed by supervisor.
- Attends to the personal care needs of residents in a timely manner.
- Regularly review, follow, and adhere to residents' service plans.
- Document and report care provided and resident observations.
- Perform vital signs and heights and weights.
- Respond to emergency calls in a timely manner.
- Monitors the safety and well-being of residents.
- Reports changes in resident status, health or otherwise to supervisor.
- Demonstrate knowledge of infection control and universal precautions.
- Provide information, encourage, and participate with residents in activity focused programs.
- May be asked to provide assistance to residents in Assisted Living and/or Memory Care.
Qualifications
- 1-2 years' experience in related position, in healthcare environment preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent desirable
- Successful completion of a state approved course and is approved to administer oral and external medication
