Summary:
The Senior Technician is responsible for performing a variety of advanced, intermediate, and routine level technical knowledge tasks by following detailed instructions. The Senior Technician will train other technicians and train in additional areas as needed. This position requires the Senior Technician to apply advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturer's manuals or similar documents.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide calibration and repair services on electronic, electro-mechanical, physical, dimensional, mechanical, and optical Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) in the assigned Precision Measurement Engineering Laboratory (PMEL).
- Meet turnaround time, throughput and availability requirements IAW the PWS, AFI 21-113, TO 00-20- 14, AFI 21-102 and other directives while maintaining high quality.
- Perform general and advanced maintenance and overhaul procedures.
- Replace mechanical components and wiring circuits.
- Utilize TMDE to troubleshoot and repair systems and circuit boards to component level, to include surface-mount technology.
- Capture test readings using common instruments such as oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, pulse generators, power meters, torque calibrator, temperature, and pressure measurement devices.
- Read, interpret, and analyze block, schematic, and wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical publications.
- Operate under minimal supervision and receive technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher level technician.
- Provide technical guidance and training, if required, to lower level technicians.
- Train lower level technicians and maintain training records as required.
- Train in additional areas/sections as required.
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis as required.
- Participate in Internal Audits as required.
- Participate in Proficiency Testing/Measurement Assurance Program as required.
- Participate in Measurement Assurance Area calibrations as required.
- Perform additional duties as directed by supervisor.
Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven record of honesty and integrity in all relationships.
- Must be able to speak, write, read and understand English.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum seven years calibration/repair experience in an Air Force PMEL or other DoD/Commercial activity.
- Advanced level experience to include inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, aligning, calibrating, and certifying TMDE, and laboratory working standards.
- Must have a valid and current driver’s license
- All applicants must pass a drug test
- Must be a U.S citizen able to acquire and retain a security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ten years calibration and repair experience in an Air Force PMEL or other DoD/Commercial activity.
- Experience with National Instruments cards calibration and repair.
- Intermediate knowledge level of Microsoft Office products to include Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Excellent knowledge of Excel and spreadsheets highly desirable.
- Two-year degree or relevant experience and demonstrated understanding of AFMETCAL program, Air Force quality systems, and ISO 9001 practice.
