Job Description
Component & Chemistry Technology - Advanced Methods (CCT-AM) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. The work will involve structural analysis of nuclear plant components for maintenance prognostics and service life extension, incorporation of machine learning into virtual sensor development, workflow automation, and continuing the team's footprint in laboratory and shipboard component testing. Additional responsibilities will include interfacing with several stakeholder groups (Informatics Team, fleet support, new design, BPMI) and providing potential surge capacity to other mission areas in the group (e.g. data science/analytics and thermal/structural analysis support).
Key Responsibilities:
• Create models and simulations to support methods development and test designs for maintenance prognostics.
• Manipulate and transform asset derived data and test data into desired measurements for structural methods development.
• Perform laboratory and shipboard testing to support development of cutting-edge analysis methods.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, test engineers, and shipyard personnel.
• Prepare detailed documentation, including test specifications, technical reports, and user manuals.
• Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and best practices in nuclear plant analysis.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience; or PhD degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science; or Currently or previously NPE qualified; or CTE/ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE.
Preferred Skills
• Proven experience with finite element analysis (FEA).
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills that enable autonomous working.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Programming experience (e.g., Python, R, Matlab).
• Knowledge of reactor plant dynamics and/or ship operations.
• Proven experience with laboratory and/or shipboard testing.
