About the Job
The Mechanical/Piping Designer position is a direct hire position working for HGA in our Baton Rouge office.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Mechanical/Piping Designer candidate performs and reviews design activities in completing complex and unique engineering design projects from general drawings and instructions. Position requires extensive knowledge of engineering design principles and practices. Assumes responsibility for technical accuracy and constructability of finished designs. Capable of engineering assignments from education and experience background but does not have a degree in engineering. Works with minimal supervision from a Lead Designer.
Mechanical/Piping Designer Duties and Responsibilities:
• Interprets and analyzes general design provided by engineers.
• Prepares detailed design for engineer’s approval.
• Acting under supervision, prepares and produces construction drawing packages by providing detailed designs using company standards and drafting techniques.
• Familiar with principals of pipe stress and coordinating analysis with Engineer.
• Assumes responsibility for technical accuracy and constructability of finished designs.
• Communicates and works closely with all disciplines.
• Review vendor equipment drawings.
• Develops layouts from job scope and vendor information.

Qualifications:
• Technology training in Drafting and design from an accredited school. Associate degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in drafting/design in the Petro-Chemical Industry field is required.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience utilizing AutoCAD.
• Ability to utilize AutoCAD 3D Software.
• Cadworx Plant 3D experience preferred.
• Experience with a consulting engineering firm preferred.
• Proficient in use of MS Windows, MS Outlook, MS Excel and MS Word.
• Candidates should be within daily commuting distance of Baton Rouge, LA.
