POSITION: Mechanical Estimator
DEPARTMENT: Sales

SUMMARY:
General Responsibilities:
The Estimator will provide support to sales staff by developing project scopes and pricing for the mechanical product lines represented by BCS. They also assist the operations team with project setup, handoff, and management. Reports to: Inside Sales Team Lead
Direct reports: None
Direction:
- Some supervision.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
60% Provide support to outside sales staff in job takeoff and pricing.
- Work with the Sales staff on developing control system layouts and sequence of operations for upcoming projects.
- Reviews plans, specifications, addendums and bid dates for projects.
- Take-offs/Estimates/Prices for mechanical products, service department, & other miscellaneous items from our product lines.
- Generates project scope of work document.
- Coordinates bids between multiple product lines
30% Coordinates job timelines and supports turnover to operations.
- Updates internal and external databases to keep up-to-date on the status of all sales opportunities.
- Coordinates project information/handoffs to operations department to ensure a proper submittal is created and submitted.
- Supports sales staff to make sure all necessary information is at project handoff meetings to ensure project success.
- Price change orders as necessary.
10% Provides customer service to existing and potential customers.
- Assists customers and potential customers with problems involving the use of company products, services and recommends suitable resolutions according to their needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline, or Technical degree in Engineering Technology or related field, preferred.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum five years of experience with mechanical equipment or engineering systems or related field, preferred.
- Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals and HVAC concepts and operations, preferred.
- Sales experience preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Mathematical abilities to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and create and interpret graphs.
- Ability to build rapport and strengthen relationships with new and existing customers.
- Strong problem solving ability.
- Organized with an attention to detail.
- Proficient with programming functions.
- Good contracting skills required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Valid driver license
Other Requirements
- Requires occasional travel to and from job sites, primarily within the local area and Kansas City.
- Requires occasional overnight stays in the Kansas City area.
Training and development:
- Studies literature and attends seminars to keep current in products, processes and materials. Must be familiar with competitors’ product lines and how our products met or exceed specification.
