Day In the Life of a Mechanical Estimator
Are you passionate about mechanical systems, like HVAC and piping, and looking to work in a collaborative team environment? If so, you'll thrive as a Mechanical Estimator with us!
In this role, you will:
- Estimate Preparation. Assist in preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for mechanical construction projects, including labor, materials, and equipment.
- Project Analysis. Analyze project plans, specifications, and technical documents to understand project scope.
- Collaboration. Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to gather necessary information for preparing estimates.
- Supplier Review. Review supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure competitive pricing and compliance with project specifications.
- Risk & Opportunity Identification. Identify potential risks, cost-saving opportunities, and areas for value engineering.
- Documentation. Maintain updated and organized records of all estimates, bids, and related documentation.
- Proposal Assistance. Assist with proposal preparation and ensure timely submission of bids.
- Industry Awareness. Stay informed about industry trends, codes, and regulations related to mechanical construction.
What Experience You Bring
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a construction-related field.
- Experience: 0-5 years of experience in mechanical estimating or related fields.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping.
- Software Skills: Prior experience with estimating software (e.g., Trimble MEP, QuickPen, FastEST, Procore, AccuBid, Exactal, CostX) is a plus. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and CAD tools (AutoCAD or Revit) is also beneficial.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
