Job Details
The Mechanical Estimator plays a key role in planning and coordinating efforts to create detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, and other expenses across various formats, including lump sum, time and material, and unit rate. This role also involves providing data and cost analysis for estimate reviews and presentations.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost & Manpower Estimates: Develop cost and manpower estimates for a variety of onshore Oil & Gas, Power, and Semiconductor projects, focusing on Piping, Structural Steel, and Equipment Installation.
Costing Tools & Systems: Use company-approved software, data, and costing methodologies to create detailed estimate breakdowns for use by project managers and teams.
Team Collaboration: Work with the existing team to meet deadlines and achieve project goals.
Comprehensive Cost Estimates: Include all necessary costs such as management services, equipment, construction, operating, and other related costs for Oil & Gas projects.
Client Interaction: Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits, recording all relevant information and details to inform the cost estimates.
Estimate Documentation: Compile project cost estimates based on client-provided RFQ documents, drawings, and other data gathered during pre-bid activities.
Cost Estimating Tools Maintenance: Maintain and update databases, spreadsheets, and other applications to track past performance and industry standards.
Interdepartmental Communication: Ensure clear communication with project managers and other departments regarding cost estimating activities.
Additional Tasks: Prepare layout drawings, bid review documents, schedules, and tracking documentation.
Experience and Skills:
Experience: A minimum of 5 years in project cost estimating, specifically within onshore Oil & Gas Facilities focusing on Piping, Structural Steel, and Equipment Installation.
Field Experience: Knowledge of Union Labor practices and construction fieldwork.
Software Proficiency: Experience with Microsoft Office (especially Excel), MS Project or Primavera (P6), Accu-Bid, and NavisWorks or other BIM software.
Contract Negotiation: Experience in negotiating contracts, materials, and outsourcing logistics.
Education and Training:
Degree/Certification: A degree in Engineering, Technical Certification, or Construction Management is preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project.
Competencies:
Adaptability: Able to manage changing priorities and deadlines with effective problem-solving.
Time Management: Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
Teamwork and Independence: Capable of working independently as well as within a team-oriented environment.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with effective listening.
Professionalism: Displays a mature and professional demeanor with strong interpersonal skills, capable of working with diverse teams.
Physical Demands: Able to work in an office setting with occasional physical activity during project site visits and bid walks.
