MECHANICAL ENGINEERING INTERNSHIP

HOW WILL THIS POSITION CONTRIBUTE?
Mission: Help us fulfill our mission by supporting, working with and learning from our exceptional technical staff.
How:This Mechanical Engineering intern position will perform entry level design, fabrication and unit assembly while working with a multilevel team of technicians, engineers, and researchers. The ideal candidate will be willing to apply existing skills, learn new methods, possess a good work ethic and the ability to carry out instructions where required. Work is in support of mechanical structures applied to electromagnetic diagnostic and test equipment. Primary tasks include creating entry level engineering drawings and 3D models, fabrication of components as necessary and within an intermediate candidate's capabilities, hardware component assembly and installation, assisting technicians and engineers installing components and sub-assemblies, and mechanical testing of assemblies.
WHAT SKILLS ARE NEEDED?
- Required:
- Working towards or having earned an associate or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
- Basic experience with computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) applications, Solidworks experience is required.
- Proficient with MATLAB, Python, C++ and Microsoft Office products
- Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs.
- Proficient with hand tools including drills, wrenches.
- Familiar with basic CNC operation and MIG/Stick welding.
- Understanding of dimensioning techniques and interpret engineering drawings.
- Understanding of symbols related to tolerancing (coordinate and geometric).
- Able to apply time management skills and teaming to complete projects.
- US citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Able to work as part of a team as well as be independently driven.
- Preferred Qualification:
- DoD Clearance eligible
