About the Job
Our client is seeking a skilled Mechanical Project Engineer to join their team and contribute to the development and management of capital expenditure (CapEx) projects. The ideal candidate will work closely with Operations, Process, and Project Management Teams to drive project success from concept through completion.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop CapEx projects, including Scope, Estimations, Specifications, Control Narratives, and Conceptual Design.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in mechanical engineering, supporting system design, engineering reviews, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Review and approve work completed by external engineering consultants, including flow diagrams, general arrangement drawings, specifications, RFQs, bid evaluations, vendor drawings, as-built drawings, and manuals.
- Prepare design drawings, specifications, and operating instructions.
- Ensure all project activities meet client expectations for safety, environmental compliance, equipment reliability, and value engineering.
- Direct and coordinate resources, both internal and external, to execute project objectives.
- Provide troubleshooting and performance enhancement support for mechanical systems, recommending cost-effective solutions and repairs.
- Work closely with plant team members, process engineers, and project managers to achieve project goals.
- Additional related responsibilities as assigned.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
- Ability to design and troubleshoot systems with mechanical equipment such as conveyors, crushers, screens, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, gearboxes, fans, blowers, and pumps.
- Experience in the design, operation, and maintenance of industrial equipment like kilns, mills, crushers, screens, dust collectors, and silos.
- Familiarity with codes and regulations (e.g., NFPA, MSHA, CEMA, AISC, OSHA).
- Strong mechanical engineering expertise, with cross-disciplinary skills in electrical or civil engineering being a plus.
- Knowledge of project scheduling and basic accounting principles.
- Commitment to safety and proactive approach to plant and mine safety.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in SAP or willingness to learn, as well as strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint) and familiarity with design software (AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks, Revit, AggFlow).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external customers and contractors.
- Highly motivated, self-directed, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-national, and dynamic team environment.
- Capability to complete conceptual designs, layouts, specifications, RFQs, and bid evaluations.
- Ability to collaborate with plant managers, staff, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Strong problem-solving and time-management skills.
- Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and sketches.
- Willingness to travel up to 30% domestically and some international travel, with potential extended assignments for critical construction and start-up periods.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline with relevant experience (e.g., Mining, Industrial).
- 8+ years of project engineering experience within an industrial environment, preferably in lime, cement, or mining industries.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
- Demonstrated track record of achieving results while ensuring a safe work environment.
