Job Definition and Purpose:
- Responsible for training and overseeing the work of Engineers working on the team to prepare drawings of plant layout; responsible for ensuring workability of equipment, location and configuration and for the quality of drawings and specifications.
- The Mechanical Engineer works as a member of the team to plan and organize the mechanical engineering work on a project and to check the quality of all drawings and calculations to ensure satisfaction of the client's requirements.
- The Mechanical Engineer must be knowledgeable regarding company drawing standards, the project's design criteria and the best way to accomplish the objectives of the project.
- The individual in this position provides leadership for the project team when necessary and also have the ability to work as a member of the team providing professional expertise as required.
- The Mechanical Engineer may be required to visit job sites to verify workability of plant layout and equipment specifications.
- Field inspections require the capability of climbing ladders and stairs, walking on uneven terrain, kneeling, bending and stooping to examine progress and status of the work at the project. The position requires proficient use of computers, calculators and other engineering tools and may require lengthy periods of time checking and performing calculations and computer drawings.
- Lifting on the job is generally limited no more than 30 lbs.
- Professional, quality results in this position require analytical skills with strong attention to detail, ability to perform abstract calculations with commitment to accuracy, and the ability to gain cooperation from team members and associates.
- The Mechanical Engineer is the senior most Engineer in the Mechanical Department here at Penta Engineering Corporation.
- The Mechanical Engineer IV has a minimum of 10 – 15 years of direct Cement and/or Lime Plant project experience within the Mechanical Department.
- Working with the Mechanical Department Manager, the Mechanical Engineer is fully involved in updating and revising the Mechanical Department's standards, specifications and procedures.
- Develops overall sketches/plans needed to prepare Mechanical Concept Drawings for the project; communicates concepts to staff who will be preparing detailed drawings.
- Checks the work of staff and ensures accurate calculation of the size and specifications for mechanical equipment and systems which meet project requirements and obtain results which meet the needs and objectives of the client: equipment includes compressors, blowers, pumps, hoists, conveyors, feeders, equipment drives, special drive supports, dust collectors and associated fans, and other required equipment.
- Calculates capacities, weights and surface area to determine capital cost estimates, and prepares capital cost estimates.
- Develops designs and makes calculations to verify workability of mechanical details; uses CADD to produce accurate, professional drawings.
- Trains team members and acts as a resource for designers to recommend the most efficient and most workable way to accomplish objectives and results on the project.
- Attends project planning and progress meetings to contribute professional expertise and to participate as a member of the team.
- Establishes and writes procedures for ensuring that all drawings are professional and 100% accurate so that the finished product meets all the requirements of the project.
- Uses reference materials as necessary and as useful in completing engineering tasks; constantly updates knowledge of technology and advancement in the field to keep abreast of new developments, methods and procedures.
- Assists in marketing company expertise and services.
- Is the primary backup to the Department Manager when the Department Manager is out or away from the office.
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, PE; Master's degree helpful.
- Minimum of 15 years in professional position with leadership/supervisory responsibility.
- Minimum of 10 - 15 years of experience in cement, lime or other industrial minerals.
- Knowledge and experience using drawing scales, triangles, calculators, and other tools as required to read drawings and English and Metric scales.
- Knowledge and ability to perform calculations quickly and accurately.
- Familiar with AutoCad Revit 3D and Navisworks Software or the ability to learn this software.
- Familiarity with reference materials and where/how to find information needed in professional work.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to coordinate work with other staff members.
- Strong organization skills to effectively manage time and resources in the most efficient manner.
