Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer
Summary:
The Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer will oversee and contribute to the design and implementation of engineering projects. This includes collaboration with System/Layout Engineers, Machinery and Carrier Designers, Structural Engineers, Designer/Drafters, and other mechanical engineering personnel to ensure successful project execution.
Responsibilities:
Design and development of mechanical systems, components, and structural systems.
Manage and adhere to engineering project schedules, including production planning for shop and subcontractors.
Coordinate advanced equipment ordering, monitor product shipping schedules, and oversee run-off testing.
Conduct design reviews and prepare technical documentation, including R&M data, FEA, and FMEAs.
Support and implement customer-requested changes while maintaining project integrity.
Act as the primary recipient of design inputs from customers, subcontractors, controls, Project Managers, shop, and Field Superintendents.
Review customer specifications to identify conflicts, ensuring alignment with the Project Manager and Engineering Manager.
Document and confirm all deviations and design bases used for the project.
Research and propose system design alternatives to optimize cost, operation, or performance.
Supervise and review the work of assigned System/Layout Engineers, Machinery and Carrier Designers, Structural Engineers, and Designer/Drafters to ensure technical quality and project alignment.
Develop and maintain detailed engineering project schedules, reviewing progress periodically and addressing schedule deviations.
Travel to job sites to evaluate progress, attend meetings, review field conditions, and address field issues. Extended travel may be required.
Ensure compliance with ISO standards and R&M documentation requirements.
Availability to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays as necessary.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience, or equivalent education and experience.
Strong technical comprehension skills to analyze, interpret, and communicate requirements from specifications, drawings, and other design inputs.
Proficiency in identifying and addressing missing engineering criteria from customer requirements, with a focus on safety considerations.
Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively within project timelines.
Willingness to travel to job sites as needed, with the capability to resolve field issues on-site.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with system design and structural engineering.
Familiarity with project management tools and techniques.
Proficiency in engineering software for design and analysis.
Effective communication and team collaboration skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior engineers.
