Job DescriptionJohn Crane has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced mechanical design and application engineer to join our team housed out of our Morton Grove IL location. This team is responsible for delivering engineered to order dry gas seal designs for our turbo machinery customers within global energy industries. You will form an integral part of the Gas Seal business unit, a team of highly creative and inventive engineering domain experts. This will provide you the opportunity to join a leading player in the industry and offer you a diverse and challenging role working on innovative new product introductions. It is important to note, you’ll be joining a team of engineering experts, who are focused on adding real value to every aspect of our engineering and manufacturing operations, you will have lots of opportunity for involvement, exposure to exciting projects and opportunity to forge collaborative relationships cross the organization.
Qualifications- Complete evaluations of customers RFQ’s , generation of technical responses : I.E selection of the appropriate seal type & configuration / cavity evaluation/submission of supporting technical data leakage calculations / material selection / gas phase envelopes (training provided)
- Effective use of Siemens Solid Edge CAD systems 2&3D in the creation and checking of General Arrangement and detail manufacturing drawings, applying a sound understanding of mechanical engineering principles ie associated tolerancing, surface finish requirements and manufacturing techniques
- Undertake FEA of components to evaluate stress and deformation.
- Utilize Parametric modelling to support in design automation of existing and new product lines
- Ability to interpret customer specifications & make decisions based on the available technical information
- Design with consideration to the aesthetics, materials and functionality of components
- Undertake complex calculations.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- 5+ years experience in Mechanical Design
- Experience designing Mechanical Seals is preferred
- Basic understanding of compressors and rotating equipment
- Positive attitude towards teamwork and excellent communication skills with internal and external bodies
- Creative design capabilities transforming ideas into engineered solutions
- Ability to identify new systems and processes to drive quality, efficiency and save costs
- Ability to self-manage their projects ensuring on time delivery.
