About the Role:
U.S. Pipe is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team. You will perform engineering assignments under the general direction of the engineering department. Has responsibility for technical decisions involving equipment reliability, design, engineering, and installation of engineering projects within the plant. Assists the Continuous Improvement department in process improvement projects.
Specific Responsibilities:
· Designs engineering projects and develops detailed estimates and economic evaluation to provide the basis for preparation of capital expenditure requests.
· Prepares process flow sheets, determines material and heat balances, sets the general arrangement of equipment and supporting facilities, and coordinates the civil, electrical, and mechanical service requirements of the projects.
· Designs, engineers, and prepares drawings for plant installations and equipment.
· Maintains various record keeping, maintenance records, records of authorized job expenditures, property inventory system and files of drawings, patterns, blueprints, catalogs, etc.
· Prepares preliminary engineering job progress reports.
· Assists in studies to improve operating and maintenance procedures.
· To ensure project specifications are met, consults and works with outside contractors and engineering firms on engineering projects including developing project specifications, evaluating bids and estimating costs. Based on analysis, selects vendors and contractors.
· Responsible for key work types involving analysis, direction, coordination, and elimination of wasted activities, to reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability.
· Key work types included but are not limited to; emergency work, planned work orders, pm creation, enhancement/design, compliance (safety and environmental).
· Initiates requests for material, follows up delivery promises and expedites when necessary.
· Assists Continuous Improvement department in process improvement projects.
· Inspects work performed by contractor to ensure work performed meets specifications of project. Ensures all contractors comply with all plant safety rules and procedures.
· Assists in activities of the Reliability department to meet compliance in environmental control activities such as air pollution, and water quality systems.
· Maintains control of expenditures with authorized appropriation.
· Ensures projects comply with state and Federal OSHA compliance regulations.
Qualifications:
· Requires a BS degree in an engineering field such as mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering
· Minimum 5 years working knowledge of regulations, practices and procedures concerned with the field of engineering.
· Must be computer proficient in the use of engineering software.
· Knowledge of lean manufacturing and the theory of constraints principles.
· Excellent communications skills with ability to present technical information.
