The successful candidate will contribute heavily to the instrumentation efforts of the Warfighter Systems Integration Lab (WSIL.) By designing, printing and building mechanical parts and components that will be used as tools in simulation and data collection. This position will also improve previous designs and assist in the 3D simulation of dynamical physics driven autonomous systems. This position will work closely with the WSIL Manager to ensure successful achievement of project goals.
This is a paid internship and has a start date of mid-May and ends in mid-late August 2025.
Job Responsibilities - About the role - you'll need to:
• Design parts in CAD for rapid prototyping, testing, and user evaluation
• Design fixtures for assembly and testing
• 3D print with FDM, SLA, and SLS machines
• Post process and finish 3D printed prototypes
• Support the team using fundamental engineering principles, theories, and practices
• Work closely with electrical and systems engineers
• Create novel solutions for specific WSIL needs.
• Create and give presentations for technical reviews
Required Skills - About you - you'll need:
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (3rd or 4th year)
• Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD
• Understanding of propulsion physics, shock absorption, ballistics.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Comfortable working with fire weapon replicas and combat simulation
• Ability to work independently
