Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Onsite 3 days per week)
Note: This position requires frequent travel to compressor stations, averaging three days per week.
Position Overview:
CMS Energy is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer III to join our Gas Compression Project Engineering team. As an Owner's Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting modifications to existing facilities and overseeing new construction projects at our natural gas compressor stations. This role offers a dynamic work environment, requiring collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the Owner's Engineer for gas compressor station projects, ensuring compliance with engineering, safety, and regulatory standards.
Coordinate with external engineers, material suppliers, and construction contractors to meet project requirements.
Review engineering designs to ensure compliance with applicable codes and best practices.
Develop and enforce technical specifications for equipment and construction.
Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables in collaboration with project managers.
Conduct site visits to verify drawing data, provide construction support, and ensure project milestones are met.
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
Minimum of 5 years of applied ABET engineering experience.
Hands-on experience in the design, construction, or operation of natural gas compressor station equipment.
Familiarity with regulatory codes and standards, including:
CFR 49 Part 192 (Transportation of Natural and Other Gas by Pipeline)
Michigan Gas Safety Standards (MGSS)
ASME Codes (e.G., ASME B31.8, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.1)
API Specifications (e.G., API 5L, API 6D, API 1104)
Proficiency in procurement processes for engineered materials, equipment, and professional services.
Experience developing contract documents, including RFPs, technical specifications, and engineering drawings.
Field engineering experience at gas compressor stations.
Project management experience with an emphasis on utility operations.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and within a team.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Procurement: Experience sourcing and managing engineering materials and services.
Safety Standards: Knowledge of utility safety protocols and regulations.
Engineering Support: Ability to provide technical support across project lifecycles.
Documentation: Proficiency in preparing technical specifications and project reports.
Project Management: Strong organizational skills to manage timelines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations.
