Overview
Participate as part of an engineering team, applying sound engineering principles to develop, customize and/or sustain TDW products and services solutions for customer applications. This role provides a detailed focus on material of construction for all product lines across the global engineering organization.
Responsibilities
- Develops new or customized product designs and improves existing technology under the direction of Technical Leads and Product Engineers.
- Assists in verifying and/or applying customer/input requirements to engineering / design activity/output.
- Assists in the creation of product documents (e.g., build and/or operating/maintenance manuals).
- Produces technical deliverables such as reports and presentations for the Supervisor, Technical Leads and Product/Project Engineers.
- Produces technical deliverables (e.g., material specifications, test reports, analysis reports, etc.) for manufacturing, other Technical Leads, Product Engineers, and other necessary parties.
- Works with Manufacturers and Technicians to identify production and assembly problems and provide corrective actions.
- Communicates schedule, progress, and status to the Supervisor, Project Engineer or other Constituency.
- Oversees validation processes for new or custom products, as needed.
- Gains a working knowledge of all aspects of company technologies.
- Initiates and/or Facilitates engineering change processes.
- Documents and validates improvements for engineering change or production release, as needed.
- Assist with research and development activities including new material approval and process design.
- Perform product lifetime expectancy calculations, material selection and review of technical documents and data sheets.
- Perform fitness for service assessments against a range of degradation mechanisms
- Test specimens against relative accepted test standards, in order to understand material properties.
- Recommends changes in material, coating or heat treatment to optimize material properties.
- Partner with suppliers to qualify material systems and ensure process control is in line with industry standards.
- Engage partners outside company such as material suppliers, component fabricators, equipment manufacturers, engineering and design firms, and service contractors to deploy solutions into product design
- Collaborate with Quality Engineers to improve product integrity by analyzing material properties of finished goods.
- Create standards, methods, processes and procedures for reviewing, evaluating and inspecting material properties and quality performance.
- Gate-keeping on available/applied metallic/non-metallic materials of construction and degradation mechanisms for the global engineering solutions business
Experience
- Knowledge, skills & abilities required.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering
- 3-8 years of engineering experience.
- Proficient skills in 3D modeling, tolerance analysis, GD&T, FEA, DFMEA, manufacturing processes, problem solving tools, and machine design principles.
- Understanding of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., DFM/A, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
- Experience with a PLM system and engineering change processes.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with FEA software (simulation and ANSYS preferred).
- Demonstrated experience with solid modeling software (e.g., Siemens NX, SolidWorks, etc.).
- Intermediate PLM software (e.g. TeamCenter, MasterControl) skills preferred.
- Intermediate MS Word, Excel, and Outlook skills.
