About the Job
Welcome to the role of Mechanical Engineer II – Engineering & Automation. In this position, you will provide Mechanical Engineering for a wide range of projects as they progress from concept to installation. The projects vary greatly and consist of anything from custom electromechanical equipment, structures, and robotics, to workstations or equipment mounting. This position will direct and supervise other Engineering Personnel as assigned. This individual will work in conjunction with engineers and project managers. The work will be performed in the office, shop, and at customer sites as needed.
This individual possesses an advanced understanding of mechanical engineering design principles and requires an aptitude and willingness for both hands-on work in the shop or field and computer design work in an office setting. This position must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include travel and overtime as needed. Overnight travel is typically on an infrequent basis.
What You'll Do:- Perform Mechanical 3D design, 2D drawings, component specification, assembly, and documentation for custom machines, systems, and products as assigned
- Recognize and pursue additional business opportunities with new and existing customers
- Evaluate internal processes and procedures while seeking continuous improvement
- Assign, oversee, review, and provide feedback to other Engineers on work assignments
- Verify that end products meet the project scope, budget, quality standards, and needs of customers
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure a high quality of product
- Gather information and pricing for proposal process to include site visits as needed
- Collaborate with Project Managers, other engineers, and purchasing to communicate and track equipment and material needs from outside vendors
- Develop and maintain a Bill of Materials (BOM) for projects as assigned
- Execute scope of work or design changes to review with engineers and project management
- Interpret and create schematic drawings, layouts, and other engineering documentation
- Lead assembly, troubleshooting, prototyping, and light fabrication in the shop
- Recognize and communicate design changes to Engineers and Project Management that are not included in the Scope of Work or active Change Orders
- Communicate with customers to maintain relationships and provide support and networking opportunities
- Facilitate problem solving and constructive communication through meetings and trainings as assigned
- Manage and supervise assigned personnel and ensure effective performance management
- Maintain a basic understanding of employment laws and regulations and collaborate with Human Resources to maintain compliance
Working Conditions
- Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or tools / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl / kneel
- Sit, talk, listen, observe, read, write, and type
- Perform work on site in industrial, commercial, and residential locations
- 5+ years’ relevant mechanical or engineering work experience preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required, Mechanical Engineering degree preferred
- Passing FE (Fundamental Engineering Exam) or equivalent required
- Valid driver’s license required
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Must be willing to attend training and remain updated regarding industry standards
- Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, define, and edit scope of work
- Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations accurately
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work well both independently and as a team
- Possesses proficiency in the use of personal computers to include Microsoft Office Suite
- Proficient in the use of software packages such as Inventor, AutoCad, and other simulation and analysis packages
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Willingness to stretch current abilities to learn new skills
