Brooks Instrument, a global manufacturer of flow and pressure measurement and control products for critical applications, and a division of ITW (A Fortune 200 Company) is seeking candidates for a Mechanical Engineer. This position will be based out of our headquarters facility in Hatfield, PA (Suburban Philadelphia). In addition to our Pennsylvania operations, Brooks maintains manufacturing locations in, Hungary, and Korea. The Company also maintains sales offices throughout the world. Our products are used in laboratory and process applications in end markets such as: life sciences, chemicals, semiconductor, analytical instruments, nuclear, and solar cells.
Job DescriptionBasic Function
Develop high precision mechanical product designs pertaining to Temperature Controlled, Ultra High Vacuum equipment, processes & control devices which include planning, scheduling, and project management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Building of prototypes, evaluation units & equipment.
- A willingness to go into cleanrooms and follow company safety protocols, wearing PPE.
- Testing equipment is a necessary job function.
- Design machined, molded, welded, etched, stamped, and extruded components including coordinating with electrical design group.
- Design tooling for proper assembly of precision components.
- Design and documentation of precision metrology, equipment & machinery.
- Expert proficiency in
- 3D CAD Design & Engineering.
- Producing detailed drawings and releases through ECN process.
- Use of Solidworks features, including but not limited to:
- Traditional 3D modeling.
- Multi-body modeling.
- Structural Weldments frame & extrusion design.
- Large complex assemblies, electronic packaging, equipment & fixture design.
- Configurations & Display states.
- Producing life-like renderings.
- Create 3D models of components and assemblies.
- Drafting 2D Drawings
- Use of standard GD&T practices per ASME Y14.5.
- Understanding of tolerances and ability to perform tolerance stack-ups.
- Reading and understanding detailed technical drawings and specifications required.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Team are required.
- MS Project & PowerBI a plus.
- Assign part numbers, create Bills of Material (BOMs), and define product configurations.
- Use PDM software & SharePoint to store and retrieve documentation.
- Manage and/or perform design verification and validation testing (DVT) of new designs including coordinating with Test Engineers, Failure Analysis, Service and Customers.
- Assist operations with equipment setup and validation.
- Service and repair faulty equipment during production line disruptions.
- Modify existing designs to improve performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.
- Work with Marketing to determine product performance requirements.
- Implement and validate new designs at global manufacturing sites and service centers.
- Initiate and assist in implementation of Engineering Change Notices.
- Plan and conduct design-support work to maintain project timing.
- Design assignments may be occasionally broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity.
- Support company continuous improvement initiatives as related to product quality & safety.
- Maintain and enhance department safety policies and procedures.
- Work independently and in a team environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- BS in Mechanical Engineering required. MS in Engineering a plus.
- 5-15 years’ experience in high precision mechanical design, equipment & product development.
- New graduates to 5-year experienced candidates may be considered with strong background.
- Expert proficiency in Solidworks is required but other CAD packages may be considered.
- Related experience in the following areas desired:
- OEM Machinery, Gas Cabinets and process equipment utilizing High/Ultra High Vacuum, sub-atmospheric systems with flow components.
- Instrumentation & electro-mechanical devices.
- Semiconductor instrumentation and or manufacturing.
- Process control instrumentation including but not limited to Manometers, Pressure Transducers & Mass Flow Controllers.
- Piping & manifold design, ability to reverse engineer, draw and document P&ID drawings.
- Use of Face Seal / VCR, KF, ConFlat & compression fittings.
- Assembly and welding of Stainless-Steel piping and manifolds, UHP preferred.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude with the ability to modify and assemble prototypes.
- Data collection and analysis.
- Calibration of analog & digital equipment, plus other Metrology.
- Making technical contributions to a multi-disciplinary team.
- Strong analytical & Technical writing skills.
- Self-management of engineering projects.
- Generation and modification of engineering standards.
- FEA Analysis using Solidworks Simulation or Ansys.
- PDM, Siemens Teamcenter or Solidworks PDM preferred.
- Solidworks certifications and training are a plus.
- LabView experience a plus.
- Experience with agency approvals such as UL, FM, PED, PIP and REACH/RoHS a plus.
- Experience with engineering standards such as ASME BPVC and SEMI a plus.
