Summary:
The company is a manufacturer of small to very large steam generators and their associated feedwater treatment packages. The ideal Candidate would possess knowledge of high-pressure process steam boilers (their manufacture, installation, & operation) and their respective feedwater treatment requirements. The work tasks include, but are not limited to, the following: research, plan, and design of mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, and direct and coordinate activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Research and analyze application & product data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and requirements to determine feasibility of the company’s design or application.
Design capital equipment products and systems such as boilers, blowers, pumps, burners, water treatment & hydraulic systems, heat transfer systems, and their associated controls & support systems. Must be able to provide pressure vessel calculations.
Plan and direct manufacturing & engineering personnel in application & use of test control equipment and develop methods and procedures for testing products or systems.
Direct and coordinate fabrication, assembly, and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer requirements.
Verify design requirements with Sales & Product Management to ensure customer & product requirements are obtained.
Design products and systems to successfully interface with end-user applications and existing hardware.
Evaluate & assist with field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system problems.
Individual must be capable of researching codes & standards such as ASME, DNV, Lloyds, ABS, USCG, ANSI, CGA, UL, NFPA, etc., and interface with certification agencies such as Hartford, ASME, etc.
Individual must possess or be capable of obtaining a PE license in mechanical engineering. Individual possessing PE or EIT certificate preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no immediate supervisory responsibilities, but the individual should possess leadership qualities and capability. The individual must be capable of effectively working in a team environment.
Education and Experience:
Required: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from a fully accredited four-year college or university.
Preferred: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience: 10 years of related experience in a capital equipment (OEM) manufacturing environment.
Preferred Experience: Combustion experience with burners and related systems.
Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) status as a licensed professional mechanical engineer preferred.
Language Skills:
Must be fluent in English and have the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Ability to read, analyze, understand, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, mechanical engineering, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write engineering reports, provide normal business communication, and produce production & product procedure manuals.
Must have the social & communicative skills to effectively interface with manufacturing personnel at all levels, fellow engineers, other departments, outside vendors (suppliers), and customers.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with all mathematical concepts from algebra to calculus.
Must have the ability to apply all mechanical engineering concepts to solve problems involving mechanisms, physics, combustion, stress, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
Reasoning Ability:
Must have the ability to solve practical problems in a cost-effective manner that deals with variables where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Must be able to visualize objects in a 3-D format and translate that into a computer-generated solid model.
Experience in conceptualizing and developing mechanical designs is important.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have fluent capability to provide CAD design at the 3D solids modeling level (preferably CREO/Pro-E).
Must have experience calculating thermal & mechanical stress and some experience with FEA and CFD software (preferably ANSYS/FLUENT).
Must be Internet literate and familiar with manufacturing software (MRP II or ERP, preferably with Microsoft Dynamics AX).
Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Systems software, including Access, Excel, & Word.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
The employee is required to stand, stoop, kneel, and walk.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 35 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The position will require travel, mostly domestic with limited international travel, on an irregular basis, up to 5% of the time.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is usually in an office environment but frequently exposed to normal manufacturing conditions such as vibration, heat, and cold.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate office level but occasionally has periods of high noise conditions while in the manufacturing & test cell areas.
