About the Job
The Mechanical Engineer will work as part of a multidisciplinary team in Raleigh, NC developing key components for BETA's electric aircraft and supporting systems. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and analyzing flight-critical hardware. You will play a key role in creating mechanical parts used in flight-critical components (i.e. Flight Controllers, Aircraft Monitoring Systems, and Battery Management Systems). You will develop test fixtures and tooling for component testing, and hardware for risk reduction and qualification testing.
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
- Design and release products for use in electric aviation in CATIA and 3DX
- Generate drawings utilizing standard tolerancing (GD&T)
- Perform hand calculations and/or FEA to ensure products meet structural and thermal requirements
- Utilize engineering knowledge with an emphasis on material properties, structural dynamics, and manufacturing methods
- Review and interpret internal design specifications
- Analyze dimensional and structural requirements
- Create models for electronic circuit assemblies for enclosure sizing and mechanical integration
- Develop scalable manufacturing processes in parallel with product design
- Order parts, materials, and equipment
- Use standard machining equipment and tools
Minimum Qualifications we are seeking:
- B.S. (M.S. desired) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or minimum 5+ years of experience in mechanical design of high-tolerance components
- Expert in use of CAD tools (CATIA preferred, or SolidWorks)
- Experience making drawings with pragmatic GD&T
Above and Beyond Qualifications that will distinguish you:
- Advanced Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience, focusing on structural dynamics
- Experienced with structural analysis tools (Ansys Mechanical/LS-DYNA, MSC Patran, Femap/Nastran, Solidworks Simulation etc.)
- Experience with Matlab and Simulink
- Experience with multibody tools (Simscape or GRCAS)
- Experience with precise measurement tools, such as calipers and micrometers
- Experience with precise machining and manufacturing processes
- Experience working within GIT version control or other configuration management practices
- Hardware Qualification Test experience per DO-160 or MIL-STD-810
- Pilot's license or passion for aerospace and/or aviation
