About the Job
- Primary responsibility is to design, model, develop, assemble and analyze all aspects of opto-mechanical assemblies which may include optics manufacturing tooling
- Collaborate with manufacturing team peers and internal customers to gather requirements
- Generate effective solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practical and within cost and time targets
- Mechanical design using SolidWorks
- Generate mechanical drawings with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Apply sound engineering design principles, backed up with hand calculations, FEA, etc., when appropriate
- Select materials and fabrication for cost/performance
- Work with vendors for quoting and sourcing of required hardware deliverables
- Assemble, test and validate deliverables
- Special projects and other duties as assigned
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Industrial Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of experience
- Previous strong hands-on skills for mechanical design, assembly, product qualification and test working on projects, as an intern, or apprentice program
Skills
- Competent in SolidWorks and FEA simulation tools
- Experience with SolidWorks PDM & Agile or similar for document control
- Experience in handling CUI, ITAR or EAR projects
- Proven oral and written skills required
- High accuracy in work, attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to assist with hands-on prototype design and builds as well as transfers to production
- Strong commitment to customer service and accountability
- Experience with AS9100, ISO 9001 or other quality management systems is a plus.

- Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
- Work in a cubicle area - must be able to work in environment where employees are on the phone / speaking causing potential distractions throughout the day.
Physical Requirements
- Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
- Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other employees accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
- Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Use hands/fingers to type/handle. Operating a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
- Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
