About the Job
The Mechanical Design Engineer - R&D plays a pivotal role in advancing packaging equipment innovation through high-level invention, creativity, and the development of cutting-edge components and systems. This position is integral to ensuring the successful manufacture, assembly, and commissioning of groundbreaking innovations.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct or coordinate mechanical component and systems design services for packaging equipment, ensuring precision and adherence to engineering and manufacturing standards.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for mechanical components and systems, including BOMs, spares, flow charts, part drawings, assembly drawings, and schematics.
- Ensure alignment of all R&D projects, initiatives, and processes with organizational policies and objectives.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills, high motivation, and adherence to target dates while working closely with the manager.
- Work with a high degree of creativity and latitude, applying engineering principles to design, prototype, test, evaluate, and implement new designs and inventions.
- Develop and measure progress through metrics and tangible goals, producing timely and detailed plans, summaries, and status reports.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to enhance current product lines, showcasing curiosity and understanding across all engineering disciplines.
- Effectively handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and champion product changes with a continuous improvement outlook.
- Translate abstract concepts into physical, testable prototypes, performing sizing and optimization analyses for design recommendations.
- Perform strength and sizing calculations, along with other analytical techniques as needed in the design or modification of packaging equipment.
- Obtain vendor quotations and set up parts in the ERP system, demonstrating proficiency in Microsoft Office software, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PDM, and various Viking Masek systems.
- Understand packaging machines and processes, attending training and vendor seminars.
Qualifications:
- Education equivalent to a four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience and specialized training.
- 3+ years of mechanical design and documentation experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills for effective design communication.
- Proficient in using various precision measuring instruments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PDM, and various Viking Masek systems.
Miscellaneous:
