Position: Mechanical Design Engineer - Structural
Location: Irvine, CA
Position Description:
The Aerospace Structural Design Engineer in this position will be primarily responsible for analyzing a wide scope of structural designs in various vehicles. Tasks including vehicle structures layout, payload integration, structural modifications and mechanisms analysis from concept through production. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills and be able to work well both on an individual basis and in a team environment. The candidate must be able to function and communicate in an interdisciplinary team (Aero, Electrical, Software, etc.). The Aerospace Structural Design Engineer reports to the Lead Mechanical Engineer.
Required Skills and Responsibilities:
- Experience in small to medium size teams in an advanced development environment
- Experience sizing metallic and composite parts for general aviation, automotive or mechanical systems
- Experience with mechanical and bonded assembly analysis methods
- Ability to follow standard processes, create clear stress reports and presentations
- Characterize, analyze, and test structural load paths and engineering assumptions
- Working knowledge of mechanical assembly fits, bonded assembly requirements and workarounds in rapid prototyping environment
- Experience with structural analysis software (HyperWorks preferred)
- Interface effectively with management, other engineering personnel, technicians and shop leads
- Proven teamwork and interpersonal skills
- Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
- 3D CAD part design or driving (SolidWorks preferred)
- Fabrication or machine shop experience
- Working knowledge of basic aircraft aerodynamics and performance
- Experience in designing robotic and aircraft systems
- Military and/or UAV experience is a plus
- AIAA Design Build Fly (DBF) experience a plus
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills. Strong listening, questioning, clarifying and summarizing skills to effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group settings
Education/Experience:
- Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in the field of mechanical engineering
Clearance Level Required: Security Clearance Not Required
Travel: Up to 10%

- Must have the ability to stoop, stand, climb, occasionally lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Regularly required to crouch and reach to install/move equipment by bending forward at the waist or by bending legs and spine
- Involves movement between departments, floors, and worksites to facilitate work.
- May be performing physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.
Salary: $80k - $160k
Salary depends on relevant work experience, education, training, essential skills, and/or other factors such as specialized or high-demand professions. In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible for an annual bonus. The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of salary or annual bonus.
