Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team and support the development of engineering and construction packages for facility expansion and buildouts. The role will include serving as the primary lead on equipment design and specification for a variety of systems, including piping and in-line components, tanks and vessels, pumps, filtration systems, and more. It also includes serving as support on other projects the mechanical engineering team takes on, including drawing and model review work, specification and standards review work, and collaboration with other disciplines to help accelerate decision making.
This role reports to Nexus Circular’s Lead Mechanical Engineer.

This role reports to Nexus Circular’s Lead Mechanical Engineer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and specify piping systems between unit operations, including everything from P&ID creation through to ISO development, to mechanical fabricator hand-off.
- Specify process equipment including pumps, tanks, and vessels.
- Review and approve Vendor/Contractor calculations.
- Review and approve Vendor/Contractor drawings and models
- Make recommendations on other equipment as necessary based on relevant codes and standards, with an emphasis on piping, tank, and vessel standards
- Collaborate closely with electrical, civil, structural, and process engineering team mates throughout the design and specification process, driving interactions towards decision and action.
- Develop and update maintenance procedures for pumps, tanks, vessels, and piping, considering these requirements during the design process
- Develop and update inspection plans for pumps, tanks, vessels, and piping, considering these requirements during the design process.
- Develop and update piping specification standards for different systems.
- Ensure designs and details are safe for field erection and use, with constructability in mind.
- Participate in the review of Management of Changes, PHA Action Requests, Construction Information Requests, and Change Order Requests.
- Lead equipment vendor qualification process for new fabricators.
- Assist with local, state, and federal permitting applications.
- Potential to travel to other Nexus locations as required (~10%).
- BS in Mechanical Engineering
- Previous experience designing chemical process operations
- 5+ years’ experience with piping design and specification
- 5+ years previous experience with fixed/rotating equipment design and specification
- 5+ years previous experience with API standards related to pumps, tanks, vessels, and piping
- Self-starter with strong initiative
- Ability to manage multiple projects on different timelines
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, purpose-driven, collaborative environment
- Have the skills needed to operate and maintain equipment
- Demonstrate a strong desire to learn manufacturing processes
