General Automotive Mechanic
The General Automotive Mechanic will support service operations by inspecting and maintaining vehicles and equipment.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM | 40-hour work weeks | 5 days a week
Job Responsibilities:
- Keeps equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles; completing preventive maintenance such as engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotations and changes, wheel balancing, and replacing filters.
- Maintains vehicle functionality by addressing operator complaints, conducting inspections, repairing engine failures, fixing mechanical and electrical system malfunctions, replacing parts and components, and repairing body damage.
- Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
- Complies with state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
- Maintains vehicle records by recording services and repairs.
- Keeps shop equipment operational by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
- Contains costs by utilizing warranties and evaluating service and parts options.
- Keeps supplies stocked by inventorying items, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
- Accomplishes maintenance and organizational goals by completing related tasks as needed.
- Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning and washing.
- Reports daily to the Shop Supervisor for all important decisions and work schedules.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an auto mechanic
- Dealer experience is preferred but not required
- Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components of vehicles
- Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- High energy level
- Must be able to handle physically demanding work
- Proven experience delivering quality work and a high level of customer service
- Ability to handle various tools (e.g., pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g., lifts)
- Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protection against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals, etc.
- High school diploma is preferred; certification from a vocational school or completion of an apprenticeship is also preferred
- Valid certification (e.g., ASE) is a definite plus
