Overview
Incumbents in the Mechanic position perform skilled work to maintain, repair, and sustain the safe and functional status of university, state, and federally owned motor vehicles.
Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities: Incumbents will report to the Motor Pool Manager.

Responsibilities
* Ensures relevant policies, procedures, and laws are implemented.
* Assists lead mechanic in training new and existing employees on new work methods and procedures, safety regulations, work policies, codes, and standards.
* Enforces proper care and safe use of the equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
* Analyzes technical problems and decides course of action for repair.
* Performs repairs according to industry standards.
* Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
* Two years of experience in standard automotive repair or heavy truck mechanical activities.
* Must possess a certificate of completion in automotive repair.
* Must possess, or be able to obtain, and maintain:
* current Commercial Driver's license
* Utah State Safety Inspection Certification
* Cache County Emissions Inspection Certificate
* Incumbent must provide their own tools for all non-specialized services.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Skilled in basic mathematical computations.
* Basic computer skills.
* Ability to analyze and solve problems.
* Exceptional customer service skills, including resolving complaints and/or concerns.
* Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and material common to the trade.
* Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
* Ability to maintain quality control standards.
* Knowledge of shop workflow and operating procedures.
* Knowledge of laws, regulations, codes, methods, and techniques of the trade.
* Ability to work independently and as a team member.
