About the Job
The Mechanic I is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting and repairing all mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems and equipment at all Ellis Hospital locations. Responsible for project work planning, proper layout and ordering modifications to existing systems or new installations. Monitors and completes work orders.
Requirements:
High School Diploma required. Three (3) years' of experience in health care facility maintenance or construction, is preferred. Must be able to read and understand mechanical drawings, schematics and specifications and the ability to use appropriate measuring equipment such as manometers, thermo-couples, flow meters, etc. On-call rotation required, and must be able to report to work when called in or when emergency situations arise. Valid driver’s license to operate Hospital vehicles is required.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting and repairing all mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems and equipment at all Ellis Hospital locations.
- Responsible for project work planning, proper layout, orders materials and ordering modifications to existing systems or new installations.
- Performs plumbing repairs and installations to systems throughout the Hospital, repairs hot/cold water systems/services, steam/hot water heating systems and associated pumps.
- Installs and repairs sinks, toilets, hoppers, and basins.
- Repairs and installs fire protection system components such as stand pipes, sprinklers and valves.
- Repairs sewer and medical gas systems.
- Inspects, diagnoses and makes repairs to mechanical equipment. Repairs and installs pumps and components of hot/cold water circulating, condenser and chilled water cooling towers, vacuum and condensate returns.
- Diagnoses and repairs autoclaves, blanket warmers, sonic washers, washing machines, dryers, food service equipment and mechanical beds.
- Inspects, diagnoses and repairs air handling, ventilation and exhaust systems.
- Repairs and installs steam coils, steam traps, hot water coils, chilled water coils, hot water converters and reheat coils.
- Troubleshoots and repairs all types of pneumatic and electrical temperature controls such as thermostats, relays, controllers, regulators, damper motors, humidifying equipment and actuating valves.
- Maintains water treatment levels for cooling tower and heating systems.
- Replaces/cleans filters and belts associated with air handling and patient room fan coil units.
- Monitors, modifies and troubleshoots DDC Energy Management system.
- Performs preventative maintenance inspections, completes work orders daily, participates in the continuous improvement and implementation of the system and reports problems or discrepancies to the supervisor or manager.
- Inspects, coordinates and works with other staff, departments and outside contractors to ensure quality work, safe and cost effective processes and procedures and completion of work.
- Provides a safe, comfortable environment for all patients, visitors, and staff by ensuring optimum operation of the systems.
- Completes mechanical rounds daily and records operating data per procedure.
- Cleans up shop and assigned mechanical rooms, keeps work area clean and safe.
- Responsible for following safe work techniques, wearing the proper personal protective equipment and utilizing proper engineering controls.
- Assists in reviewing and developing department policies and procedures.
- Coaches, mentors and trains staff as needed.
- Required to fill in as the Boiler Operator as needed to include operating and monitoring the steam plant to ensure continuous steam supply to Ellis Hospital and Sunnyview Hospitals to provide energy for heat, hot water kitchen equipment and sterilization. Monitors and logs all reading and data as required.
- Completes required training as assigned.
- Complies with Hospital and department policies, work rules and requirements.
- Adheres to patient privacy policies and procedures, maintain confidentiality.
Salary Range: $15.84-$22.96/hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
