The MBT Mechanic Apprentice position is responsible for completing various assignments such as installing, maintaining, repairing, dismantling, and reassembling machinery in an industrial setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with Master Mechanics to ensure efficient operation of equipment and systems
- Install, maintain, and repair machinery and mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, and other equipment
- Maintain compliance with safety rules, for example lock out, tag out, and arc flash
- Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks to ensure the efficient operation of building equipment and systems
- Troubleshoot and repair problems with building systems and equipment
- Assist with the installation of new equipment and systems
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed
- Ensure that all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and building codes
- Participate in training sessions and other learning opportunities to improve skills and knowledge
- Assist with maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies
- Ensure that all tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored
- Perform maintenance related general cleanup of facilities as needed
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication skills
- Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced Journeymen
- Ability to work a regular schedule, which may include weekends and holidays
- Ability to and knowledge in operating small hand power tools
- Ability to follow established procedures and protocols for completing tasks
- Ability to work 10 hour shifts, 4 days a week, this can increase to 16 hours depending on process conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or certificate in a related field
- Prior experience working in facilities maintenance or a related field
- Knowledge of safety regulations and building codes
- 1 year or more papermill experience
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to climb ladders and do overhead work
- Must be able to bend, squat, and complete tasks on the floor
- Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to operate hand and power tools for extended periods of time
