Wahl Clipper Corporation, a global manufacturer of branded Consumer and Professional products, has an exciting opportunity for a Material Sciences expert to fill the role of Materials Sourcing Engineer.
The Materials Sourcing Engineer is responsible for identifying suppliers to drive new plastics, coatings, colors, materials, and finishes in support of Wahl new product development. These responsibilities could include assessing current end-to-end sourcing operations, implementing process improvements to ensure value-add and aligned sourcing activity, supplier relationship management, negotiations, new supplier and materials development, risk mitigation, and building strong/supportive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Find high-quality suppliers with existing capabilities in coating, materials, and components.
- Identify future technologies and appropriate suppliers; identify companies that are introducing innovative technologies and facilitate connections with the innovation team.
- Connect the Wahl industrial design and development team with supplier partners.
- Drive communication and prototype builds with suppliers. Pre-screen to accelerate iterations to get required performance and quality.
- Drive strategic supplier initiatives including supplier selection, development, consolidation, and platforming methodologies.
- Develop and maintain a good understanding and knowledge of current materials, products, and markets and their potential impact on company performance globally.
- Maintain and disseminate market intelligence globally.
- Work closely with internal customers/stakeholders to understand priorities, timing, and strategy of key business requirements.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all sourcing and engineering expectations are fulfilled.
- Work closely with Compliance to ensure all suppliers maintain the expected standards.
- Closely align with the new product development teams. Collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all expectations are met for product launches.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of materials engineering experience with an emphasis on colors and finishes.
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science Engineering
- Appropriate technical understanding of colors, materials, and finishes to make viable sourcing recommendations to the organization.
- Ability to communicate and facilitate communication between suppliers and Wahl Clipper Corporation.
- Necessary industry understanding to define what is relevant, current, and exciting to Wahl's various product categories.
- Knowledge of strategic sourcing methodologies (RFx, SRM, category management, etc.) and excellent negotiation skills.
- Proven project management and communication skills.
- Ability to be pro-active and persistent in a fast-paced, multi-dimensional environment.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships across many functional areas.
- Fluent in Chinese and/or Mandarin.
