About the Job
Corning Research & Development Corporation seeks Materials Process Engineer to work in Painted Post, NY. Design & run experiments for ceramic firing processes to develop fundamental science of firing reactions. Understand, improve, & control chemical reactions that occur during ceramic firing. Collaborate w/ computational modelers to develop & improve physics-based ceramic firing process models. Share & discuss data, conclusions, & recommendations w/ project & process development teams & senior management. Up to 10% domestic & international (Germany, China) travel. Req: Master’s in Material Science, Ceramic Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or closely related. 2 yrs. of ceramic, materials, or chemical engineering experience focused on thermal processing & manufacturing of ceramics. 2 yrs. exp.: analyzing & testing inorganic & organic chemical reactions during firing experiments, including thermal/atmospheric profiles from firing, defects, & ceramic-material properties; analyzing resulting chemical composition & structure of fired ceramics; transferring new firing processes for ceramic compositions to manufacturing; and interpreting thermal events of organic & inorganic materials during firing.
