Who we are looking for:
We are currently looking for a Materials Manager to be based out of Wayne, MI. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this person will be responsible for leading the Shipping and Warehouse team to ensure the plant's safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity goals are met, by utilizing lean daily management.
What you'll do:
Additional Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Actively oversee daily purchasing, to include, raw material management; and warehousing operations, to include, inventory management
Responsible for overall inventory management with continuous improvements through safe operating practices, product availability, waste reduction, cost-saving initiatives, and cultural breakthroughs
Own, manage, and supervise teams responsible for the supply chain and procurement of materials in support of production processes and inventory warehouse functions
Support Manufacturing Supervision responsible for hourly Shipping personnel
Communicate job expectations; plan, monitor, and appraise job results; coach, counsel, and discipline employees, when appropriate; initiate, coordinate, and challenge systems, policies, and procedures
Develop and drive transformational enhancements to Packing and Shipping tools, processes, and methods, to improve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity
Manage the Cycle Count process, and actively implement process improvements
What you'll bring:
Qualifications include:
Bachelor's in business, engineering, or related field, or extensive manufacturing management experience as an equivalency
5+ years' relevant working experience
Experience in lean manufacturing or a business system-based company
Proven knowledge of purchasing within an ERP system
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, both written and verbal
Demonstrate and foster an environment that upholds the Atkore Core Values of Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect, and Excellence
Within 3 months, you'll:
Complete your Atkore Immersion Program
Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy
Adhere to and drive accountability of all Life Saving Rules, including: Lock-Out, Tag-Out (LOTO), Machine Guarding/Bypassing Safety Controls, and Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) safety protocols
Support and drive accountability of 5S initiatives in assigned work areas
Within 6 months, you'll:
Own Commercial Metric reporting and process improvement
Create and modify standardized work and ensure consistent application by all team members
Improve shipping efficiencies to reduce backlog by 30%
Achieve Key Performance Indicator reporting, while actively participating in Lean Daily Management activities
Within 12 months, you'll:
Have meaningful performance conversations with your direct reports
Take on a Level 1 A3 tied to the Lean Transformation Plan
Take on Cycle Counting and Yearly Inventory responsibility to improve Wayne's material efficiency
