Position Overview:
The Materials Manager is responsible and accountable for meeting the company's needs for inventory management, as related to vendor management for sourcing and procuring raw material and supplies, planning and scheduling activities for all USA manufacturing operational locations and Global 3PL warehouses. This includes understanding supply needs, timing and managing to ensure service, delivery, and that quality expectations are met.
Arlon locations today include - the USA (CA and TX), along with 3PL USA, Netherlands, and United Kingdom.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Procurement:
- Manage team of buyers to ensure raw material availability to support production plan.
- Strong proven negotiations skills are essential in this role. Ability to negotiate with suppliers for price, supply and understanding of supply contracts.
- Produce reports and statistics regularly (Inventory status report, obsolete stock report, damaged inventory, etc.)
- A thorough understanding of manufacturing practices and the ability to understand product requirements.
- Improving purchasing and buying process to automate and fully utilize MPR.
- Work with R&D and Product Management to identify sourcing concerns or cost reduction projects for raw materials / production supplies.
- Develop and maintain KPI reporting for the team of buyers (working with IT to automate).
- Create and establish external benchmark analysis to identify areas of cost reduction through dual sourcing / negotiations.
- Manage vendor relationships and identify risk areas with suppliers.
- Maintain supplier databases, purchase records and related documentation.
Planning / Forecasting:
- Oversee team of planners to publish schedules to support forecast and customer demand.
- Develop and manage inventory reporting to identify areas of stock outs and ensure inventory levels are aligned with service and organizations goals.
- Partner regularly with the global Marketing and Sales leaders, to ensure the demand consensus process delivers an agreed upon, workable volume forecast (mid and long term); ensure gaps and overlaps are addressed, scenarios are completed, and issues appropriately escalated to meet business objectives.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, transportation, and Finance to ensure that the appropriate data is available and accurate to be reviewed at the S&OP process meetings and establish company's supply plan.
- Communicate company supply plan to Operations management and Planning department to plan for changes in production levels.
- Develops and implements the long-term vision and strategy for the Manufacturing Planning Department including global governance for other Arlon locations to comply with.
- Lead the Sales & Operations management reviews, prepare all data and metrics for review, identify gaps and scenarios that must be presented, guide final decision making on open items and trade-offs, and prepare escalations for executive review where appropriate.
- Subject matter expert for all planning systems, leading the process and system parameter settings for MPS and MRP in a global manufacturing environment with multiple locations.
- Recommend and maintain optimal inventory levels at various stages in the supply chain to achieve customer satisfaction levels as well as mitigate inventory exposure.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Sales to develop sales forecast and tracking metrics that ensures the highest levels of customer service at the lowest inventory levels.
- Collaborate with Sales, Transportation and Logistics to develop and implement planning systems that interconnected with our distribution methods
Leadership:
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Leverage department talent, effectively improve team and interdepartmental dynamics; ensure communication within departments and organization.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and development opportunities to support associates' continued development and enrichment.
- Participate in development and implementation of Annual Operating Plan, including the identification of key projects directed at improving safety, quality, and efficiency. Identify, evaluate, and propose related capital projects.
- Comprehensive understanding of MPS and MRP practices
- Bachelor's degree (BS) in Operations Management, Business Administration, or other relevant discipline
- Eight (8) + years' experience in a multinational planning, procurement and/or scheduling environment, with two (2) + years of supervisory/management experience of a team of four (4) + employees
- Must have managed a raw materials budget of minimum $150m
- Must be a proven and skilled negotiator on major vendor accounts.
- Analytical / mathematical analysis skills required.
- Medium to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables/lookups required)
- ERP experience
- Strong communication skills in the English language (verbal, written, listening, presentation, inter-personal)
- Valid driver license, auto insurance and travel documents (including passport)

Preferred/Optional Additional Education and Experience:
- MBA or MS in Supply Chain Management
- APICS and/or CPIM
- SAP experience
- Arkieva - Forecasting software experience
Pay Transparency
The current pay rate for this position is $110,000 – $120,000. Rate of pay will depend on factors such as market conditions and location, job-related knowledge and skills, education, training and experience. If hired, employment will be at will. The Company reserves the right to modify pay, as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program, at any time. EOE
