Overview
The Materials Handler I supports the DOS USLC- Hagerstown
This is a TEMPORARY position for a minimum of 30 days.
Responsibilities
- Verifies receipt of household effects received via transportation service providers; annotates discrepancies for the permanent file.
- Receives household effects from transportation service providers.
- Unloads household effects and general freight from delivery trucks via warehouse docks.
- Identifies damaged, lost or missing items and notifies the project manager or assistant project manager immediately.
- Exercises extreme care when handing each piece of personal effects.
- Wraps and packs household effects to prepare for long term storage.
- Assembles and repairs wood shipping crates, using a variety of electric and pneumatic powered hand tools, such as saws, drills, nail guns, etc.
- Performs manual lifting of furniture and other material.
- Receives training on the safe operation on a variety of material handling equipment to include 6,000lb and 10,000lb capacity forklifts, mechanized floor sweeper and scrubber.
- Assists with the movement of tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles inside the warehouse.
- Ensures all safety procedures are being followed.
- Maintains the warehouse facility, notifies the project manager of any damages and/or maintenance issues.
- Maintains all government furnished equipment. Forklift certification required.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Possess a minimum one year of verifiable experience in transportation or logistics..
- Ability to obtain and maintain a PUBLIC TRUST clearance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Possess a basic working knowledge of the transportation/logistics industry.
- Have an ability to clearly communicate (write, read and speak) the English language.
- Have a physical fitness level that allows for extended periods of time operating a forklift and/or prolonged standing and associated manual labor.
- Able to independently lift 80 pounds.
