Step into Your New Role
Kleinfelder Construction Services is seeking experienced Materials Engineering and Testing Services (METS) Representative for our client, Caltrans, to perform quality assurance inspection services on transportation-related road and highway improvement projects throughout Southern California. The METS representative will be assigned a field vehicle and gas card, reporting to a construction job site(s), with the ability to work extended shifts and nights as needed.
Job Duties
- Help build EXCITING and BIG Bridge Projects across a Region of California!
- Work in a team environment under the supervision of Caltrans senior engineer
- Represent Caltrans as the Materials Engineer for a District
- Regularly liaise and develop relationships with Caltrans Construction Contract Managers (e.g. Resident Engineers and Structures Representatives) and their assistants
- Coordinate with Caltrans METS inspectors for critical structural items (Precast Concrete, Structural Steel, and Coatings)
- Coordinate with Caltrans METS material engineers, technicians, laboratory staff, scientists, and managers
- Review shop drawings, concrete mix designs, test reports, and other materials submittals
- Respond to Requests for Information (RFI) regarding materials
- 10-20% Travel (Local and Nationwide)
- Prepare technical reports as necessary
- Support audits of authorized fabricators
- Participate in and lead meetings as appropriate
Qualifications/Skills
- California PE (Required)
- NACE Certifications or coating experience (on job training available)
- CWI Certification or welding experience (on job training available)
- ACI Testing and PCI Level I, II certifications or experience with precast concrete (on job training available)
- 5 years experience with materials engineering, special inspection, or construction management
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite of programs (Word, Excel, Office)
- Proficient with BlueBeam Revu
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Good organizational skills
- Familiar with Quality Control and Quality Assurance
- Familiar with Caltrans specifications
- Comfortable with reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and applicable codes (e.g. ASTM, AWS)

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Pay Transparency Law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Salary range: $125,024 - $208,303 annually.
