We are seeking a Material Planner to join our client's dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for interpreting technical drawings, manuals, and work specifications to develop accurate material estimates for repairs on US Navy and commercial ships.
Title: Material Planner
Location: San Diego, (Coronado Bridge area)
Contract: 6 Months, possible extension
Shift: regular hours, 9/80 with every other Friday off
This client is a US Federal Government contractor and is legally required to hire US Citizens or US Permanent Residents. US Citizens or Green Card Holders will only be considered for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Drawing Interpretation: Analyze and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and work specifications to determine material requirements for ship repairs.
Material Estimation: Develop comprehensive material estimates for repairs, taking into account inspection reports, deficiency reports, and contract changes.
New/Growth Work Estimates: Create material estimates for new and growth work identified during inspections or resulting from contract modifications.
Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all material estimates, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure material estimates align with project scope and timelines.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve material estimation processes and contribute to the development of best practices within the team.
Qualifications:
Education: GED or Associate's degree in Engineering, Maritime Studies, or a related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience: 1-2 years of experience in material planning, estimating, or a related field, preferably within the maritime or defense industry.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and manuals. Familiarity with material estimation software and tools.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Adaptability: Flexible and adaptable to changing project requirements and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working on US Navy or commercial ship repair projects.
Knowledge of maritime industry standards and regulations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
