The opportunity
In order to address the challenges brought on by constrained system capacity, aging major assets, and environmental sustainability, BC Ferries is preparing to launch a new Fleet Renewal Program that will see a large number of new major and minor vessels introduced to the fleet in the near term. New and upgraded shore-based infrastructure and facilities will be required to support the fleet renewal program.
The brand new position of Director, Fleet Renewal Transformation will be a leadership role for a new part of BC Ferries’ organization and one that will have broad influence on BC Ferries’ short-term and long-term business transformation strategies. In this role, you work closely with Senior Leadership across the organization to propose and implement short-term and medium-term strategic roadmaps to ensure the company is prepared to deliver Fleet Renewal goals and objectives. You also support the development and implementation of business strategy and programs and projects leading to complete renewal of a significant portion of BC Ferries fleet and associated infrastructure.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Fleet Renewal, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:
- Developing and leading implementation of, short-term and long-term transformation plans to establish and operationalize a new organization within BC Ferries, focusing on developing organizational structures, tools, processes and capabilities
- Leading the planning, execution and delivery of complex transformation initiatives within established timelines, budgets, and quality standards, aligning to our future architectural roadmap
- Providing leadership to ensure matrixed technical and administrative support is made available to program and project teams through all stages of project planning and execution, ensuring business value delivery
- Overseeing Fleet Renewal program governance, including project business case development and project support functions
- Collaborating with cross-functional business areas to identify opportunities for business capability maturity, including process improvements, innovation and organizational design
- Leading change management efforts to ensure seamless transformation from current BC Ferries corporate structure to new program organization structure; ensuring the organization remains suitably positioned and structured to deliver through the various stages of each project and program in the portfolio
What you bring to the team
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or related fields. A Master’s degree is preferred
- 10+ years of experience and proven track record managing projects and programs over $100 million
- 4-6 years of experience leading change within complex (multi-role) organizations of over 100 people
- 10+ years of managerial experience directly and indirectly leading multi-faceted teams of over 30 people
- 4-6 years of experience working provincial or federal government agencies is preferred

Additional information
The target salary range: $155,100 - $193,900 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.
